About us Work with us Current vacancies Current vacancies CASUAL SUPPORT WORKERS WANTED We are looking for Aboriginal men who are enthusiastic and self motivated workers who would go into a casual pool for shifts to fill in for Support Workers who are on leave or to provide extra staffing during busier periods. Support Workers work across the service during the day, evenings, nights and weekends. Namatjira Haven is a residential Drug & Alcohol facility that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year located near Alstonville. Support Workers provide personal and cultural support to residents, transport residents and undertake a variety of supervision and program activity tasks to help meet our Gulgihwen (change) program objectives. As a member of the pool you may be called at short notice to cover a shift and you would need your own vehicle as Namatjira Haven is not accessible by public transport. An ideal candidate is someone who:• Has a steady hand and a compassionate, non judgemental attitude in supporting our clients to achieve their goals in making positive change in their lives;• Has some understanding of the underlying factors that may cause drug and alcohol misuse;• Has an awareness of cultural safety, with local cultural knowledge preferred but not essential;• Has current or recent employment that shows he is punctual and reliable;• Is familiar with using computers for emailing and writing notes;• Communicates well with a broad range of people;• Has an enquiring mind, a willingness to learn and is curious about how things are done and how they could be done better. Successful applicants must have a manual driver’s license, a good driving record, a current criminal history and working with vulnerable people check, and a First Aid certificate before starting. A Light Rigid licence is required to be obtained within 3 months of starting. Some other specific training will be required after starting. A casual Support Worker who performs the role well and displays keen interest in learning will be supported to become permanent and may be offered a career opportunity to progress to a case worker role.
